15 November 2011 – A tour of Beaufort, South Carolina

As the fog had set in we decided not to head out on the water but instead we took a taxi into Beaufort – only about 3 miles away.

Believe it or not this was taken at dawn before the fog rolled in

We opted for a horse driven carriage tour which was really good and very interesting. Coming to the end of their season, it was very quiet, so Lance and I were the only ones on the tour.

Quite a few scenes of famous movies were shot there, including Forrest Gump. We saw the houses that Tom Hanks and Sally Field rented for the duration and it turns out that the swing bridge that we had gone under the day before, was the actual bridge that Forrest ran across in the movie – even though it supposedly had a sign up saying the Mississippi River – and of course we’re a long way from that here.

Wednesday dawned a little foggy too but it looked to be clearing up so we decided to head out and head south. The fog did clear up for the most part until we got to one of the sounds – it then enveloped us and was really quite erie – thank goodness for radar which is proving to be very useful so far. :-)

And then on to a nice peaceful anchorage ……. I even read my book……. until I heard warnings on the radio! (See Lance’s post on thunderstorms and tornadoes!)
