2012-01-25 Hawksbill Cay to Warderick Wells

So yesterday we confirmed our position on the waiting list for Warderick Wells (WW) mooring ball. Fortunately we were able to do a radio relay through our friends, Natalie and Sylvein on Muscarat 1 whose son’s birthday we had attended on the beach. They were also coming to WW. The reason for the need for them to relay for us was that sailboat radio antennas are way up high on their masts so can “see” that much further. This is important because the VHF radios can only communicate with each other if they can “see” each other. Behind the hill, as we were, our antenna was just too low.

So after breakfast we up-anchored and made our way to Warderick Well encountering some stunning looking waters along the way with varying depths – down to 4.8 feet at one stage (still giving us a 3.8’ clearance.

Coming in to WW was amazing with this long U-shaped channel with mooring balls along the way. About 60’ from our ball, the sand bank actually dries at low tide!!

Along the way from Hawksbill Cay to WW we were hailed on the radio by Amanda and Steve aboard Diane!! We had just passed them and they were heading to WW as well!! The last time we saw them was at Bimini and Cat Cay!

After picking up the mooring ball – Mary is quite a pro at this now – we had lunch and then went to the office to register and then to the beach to give the boys some “shore time.”

Later Steve and Amanda dinghied round for drinks, nibbles and a good catch up :)

This morning we got the weather forecast and it seems that there is some “ugly” weather coming. Some in the next few days but the major stuff on Monday/Tuesday. So we have decided to stay here till Saturday (probably) and then move further south. We are working our way down to Staniel Cay where Leanne and the boys will leave us by flying back to Nassau and then home to NZ, visiting Robert and Christina in Cupertino for some jet lag recuperation.

So now we’re off to Boo Boo Hill. More later…….

Well, we’d hoped to do this but it’s just started raining again :(

  1. You really seem to be meeting people and making great friends along the way, this is a trip you will remember for the rest of your lives. Hope you miss the bad weather, we are having great weather at the moment, summer has finally arrived – but the evenings are still a little chilly. Keep safe and enjoy. LOL from us both.
