29th October 2011 – Day 6/Day7 Elizabeth City

Well we’re staying put at the moment. A cold front has arrived and yesterday we went under the bridge and into Pelican Marina.

So now we’re back on shore power and free wi-fi. It’s also a really good price per night – only a $35 flat fee including power. Most other marinas charge somewhere between $1.50 and $2.00 per ft per night plus a flat charge of about $8 to $10 for power. So with our 38ft boat it all starts to mount up.

However, Lance has been working on the anchor this afternoon and has managed to get it working so that’s all good. That means that we can anchor out more often.

Yesterday we went out for breakfast with Linda and Steve and two other couples and then we went to visit the museum. It was very interesting. This was the place where the Wright brothers made their inaugural flight.

Linda and Steve came over for dinner last night and this morning we walked back across the bridge (Linda followed on her bicycle) hoping to go to the Farmers’ Market. Unfortunately it was cancelled due to the weather, so out for breakfast again – Steve was determined to have scrambled eggs and pork brains – supposedly a delicacy in the area. He enjoyed them but for our purposes it just looked like scrambled eggs with chopped ham. We finished up with a visit to the cupcake shop!

Yummy - just what the doctor ordered for a cold windy day
